Picture this delightful Japanese culinary innovation called "Onigirazu" – a mouthwatering masterpiece where a symphony of rice and scrumptious fillings dance atop a sheet of nori, all embraced in a flat and delectable wrap.


It's a clever twist on the beloved "onigiri," but here's the kicker – no molding required! That's right, no more fussing about forming the perfect rice triangle. The name "onigirazu" itself reflects this artful approach to creation.


Now, let's embark on a journey back in time, about 25 years ago in 1990, where the origins of this delightful concept took root. It all began in the captivating world of manga, precisely in the pages of "Cooking Papa." From those inked illustrations, a culinary revelation sprouted, and today, we savor the mouthwatering charm of "onigirazu" with every delectable bite!


Step 1:

A Sheet of sushi seaweed being cut in half up until the center point.

Step 2:

Splitting the sushi seaweed sheet into for quadrants: 1st and 3rd quadrant  being filled with rice, the 2nd quadrant has the makers choice of sandwich filling, and the 4th quadrant having another choice of filling.

Step 3:

Taking the bottom right flap of the sushi seaweed sheet and folding it over the other half.

Step 4:

Take the now folded right half of the sushi and fold it over to the left and then flip it down to the bottom.

Step 5:

Now we have completed the folding steps of making our onigiruz sushi

Step 6:

Cover the sushi in plastic wrap.

Step 7:

While maintaining the square shape of the sushi, wrap it fully in the plastic wrap and gently press each side.

Step 8:

Inspect the onigiruz sushi with the rice being on top and bottom, and the filling in the middle.

Step 9:

Now cut the onigiruz sushi in half and now it is done.
